Patient and Family Education
Because anxiety and lack of knowledge can be barriers to achieving the best results of care provided, St. Vincent's places a major focus on patient and family education. Whenever possible, we provide education before the surgery or procedure - before the patient is even hospitalized.
At St. Vincent's, both patients and family are partners in care. Thus, for each clinical pathway, or program of care that guides our healthcare professionals, there is a corresponding patients and family pathway. Written guides in easy-to-understand terms explain what to expect on a daily basis and outline the goals the patient should work toward to accomplish. Patients and families are encouraged to participate in making decisions about care.
