If your physician has scheduled you for surgery at St. Vincent's Ambulatory Surgery Main Hospital , please familiarize yourself with the following information in order to help us provide the best care possible for you and your family. Follow these and any additional instructions given by your physician or the pre-admission nurses.

If you are unsure about any aspect of your care, please call the pre-admissions nurse at (205) 930-2528 or 1-800-882-0077 for clarification. If the call is answered by voice mail during our business hours, please leave your name and phone number, and your call will be returned as soon as possible.

If you have concerns or questions on weekends or after hours, please contact your physician. Messages left on voice mail may not be retrieved in time to appropriately respond to your question or need.

Online Pre-Registration
To help cut down on time and paperwork of registration, registration forms can be filled out electronically on the Internet from our web site. Online Pre-Registration forms are found in My St. Vincent's . From there, you will be able to safely and securely enter the information needed to register you for your procedure. Please keep the reference number given at the end of your pre-admission and bring it with you to your Pre-Admission Testing.

Where to go
When you come to St. Vincent's for surgery, you may park in the Women's and Children's Center parking garage or you may utilize the valet service, located at the front entrance of the hospital. A map of the hospital campus and parking decks can be found here .

If you are traveling east on Eighth Avenue, turn right onto St. Vincent's Drive at the light. Take the second right at the Women's and Children's Center sign. Pass under the concourse. Turn right into the parking garage. Signs will direct you to the Patient Registration area in the main hospital.

Plan to arrive two hours prior to scheduled surgery time.

On the day of surgery, go directly to the reception desk in the Surgery Waiting Room on the 3rd floor. Elevators No. 6 and 7 will take you directly to the 3rd floor reception area.

If you have not been pre-tested, please go to Patient Registration in the main hospital lobby.

What to bring
Please bring a list of medications you are currently taking and the dosages for each, as well as your current insurance information and/or cards. If you have had an EKG within the last six months, please ask your physician for a copy and bring it with you on the day of your surgery.

Please leave valuables and jewelry at home. The hospital cannot assume responsibility for lost or misplaced items. If you wear dentures, bridges or hearing aids, you are encouraged to wear them to surgery. Please leave contact lenses at home, or bring necessary items to remove them prior to surgery.

On the day of your surgery
You should take all prescription drugs as scheduled the day before your surgery. If you are on heart, blood pressure, diabetic, seizure or blood-thinning medications, you should take these as instructed by your physician.

Do not eat or drink anything, not even water, after midnight the night before your surgery, unless otherwise instructed by your physician or pre-admissions nurse. You may brush your teeth.

Should you become ill with a fever, cold, sore throat or other illness, please notify your physician before your scheduled surgery.

What to expect
Due to limited waiting room space and available parking, please limit the number of visitors you bring with you the day of surgery.

While every effort is made to maintain our surgery schedules, unforeseen circumstances sometimes do occur. Please be patient if you experience a brief wait prior to your surgery.

All patients under the age of 19 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

For your family
For the convenience of friends and family members visiting the surgery waiting room, please note the following information:

One person representing the family should always remain in the waiting room until the family talks to the doctor.

All visitors will be asked to speak with doctors behind closed doors due to the patient's right to confidentiality.

Please be attentive to pages from the front desk.

Pay phones are located directly to the left of the front desk. The numbers for these phones are 933-8884 and 933-8920. We ask that any calls from family or friends be made to and from these numbers.

Please do not leave children unattended in the waiting room. A playroom for children is available.

A business is office available to those who need privacy for work. Installation panels for laptop computers are available in these offices.

For dining choices, St. Vincent's offers the Food Court (2nd floor, main hospital).

Financial Arrangements
If you do not have insurance, please contact the Business Office prior to your admission at (205) 838-3910 and ask for a financial counselor. Call between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Based on your insurance coverage, you may be asked to pay your deductible or co-pay at the time of registration. Payment can be made using cash, check or credit card.

Accommodations
St. Vincent's Centennial Lodge is designed to provide patient's families with comfortable, close and convenient overnight accommodations. Although reservations are not required, they are accepted and may be made by contacting the Centennial Lodge reception desk at (205) 558-3800.
