If your physician has scheduled you for surgery at St. Vincent's Outpatient Surgery Center North Tower , please familiarize yourself with the following information in order to help us provide the best care possible for you and your family. Follow these and any additional instructions given by your physician or the Outpatient Surgery Center.

If you are unsure about any aspect of your care, please call the Outpatient Surgery Center at (205) 558-3550 for clarification. If the call is answered by voice mail during our business hours of 5:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m., please leave your name and phone number, and your call will be returned as soon as possible. If you have concerns or questions on weekends or after hours, please contact your physician. Messages left on voice mail may not be retrieved in time to appropriately respond to your question or need.

Pre-Registration
You will receive a telephone call from an Outpatient Surgery Center pre-registration specialist approximately three to five days prior to your surgery. At that time, the pre-registration specialist will give you specific instructions over the phone concerning your care prior to surgery. The pre-registration specialist will also take from you the information needed to register your for your procedure, including insurance information. To pre-register online, click here.

Where to go
When you come to St. Vincent's Outpatient Surgery Center North Tower for surgery, you may park in the North Tower parking garage or you may utilize the valet service, located at the front entrance of the North Tower near the glass rotunda. A map of the hospital campus and parking decks can be found here .

If you are traveling east on University Boulevard, turn right onto St. Vincent's Drive at the light. Take the first right. Follow the signs to valet parking. You will then be directed to Outpatient Surgery Center North Tower , located on the second floor of the North Tower.

You will receive a telephone call after 10:00 a.m. the day before your surgery with your scheduled arrival time.

What to bring
Please bring a list of all medications, including vitamins and herbal supplements, that you are currently taking and the dosages for each, as well as your drivers license and current insurance information and/or cards. If you have had an EKG within the last six months, please ask your physician for a copy and bring it with you on the day of your surgery.

Please leave valuables and jewelry at home. The St. Vincent's Outpatient Surgery Center North Tower cannot assume responsibility for lost or misplaced items. If you wear dentures, bridges or hearing aids, you are encouraged to wear them to surgery. Please leave contact lenses at home, or bring necessary items to remove them prior to surgery.

On the day of your surgery
You should take all prescription drugs as scheduled the day before your surgery. If you are on heart, blood pressure, diabetic, seizure or blood-thinning medications, you should take these as instructed by your physician. If you have any questions about taking your medications, call the Outpatient Surgery Center at (205) 558-3550 for clarification.

Do not eat or drink anything, including water, gum, mints, candy, cigarettes, or chewing tobacco, after midnight the night before your surgery, unless otherwise instructed by your physician or pre-admissions nurse. You may brush your teeth.

Should you become ill with a fever, cold, sore throat or other illness, please notify the Outpatient Surgery Center before your scheduled surgery.

What to expect
While every effort is made to maintain our surgery schedules, unforeseen circumstances sometimes do occur. Please be patient if you experience a brief wait prior to your surgery.

All patients under the age of 19 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

For your family
For the convenience of friends and family members visiting the waiting room, please note the following information:

One person representing the family should always remain in the waiting room until the family talks to the doctor.

Patients should arrange for a friend or family member to take them home following surgery.

All visitors will be asked to speak with doctors behind closed doors due to the patient's right to confidentiality.

Please be attentive to pages from the front desk.

Complimentary phones are available in the waiting room.

A visitor lounge containing complimentary coffee and snacks is located in the waiting room. Vending machines are also available.

Please do not leave children unattended in the waiting room. A play area for children is available.

Wireless Internet access is available in the waiting room.

Financial Arrangements
If you do not have insurance, please contact the Business Office prior to your admission at (205) 838-3910 and ask for a financial counselor. Call between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Based on your insurance coverage, you may be asked to pay your deductible or co-pay at the time of registration. Payment can be made using cash, check or credit card.

Accommodations
St. Vincent's Centennial Lodge is designed to provide comfortable, close and convenient overnight accommodations. Patients may find the accommodations a convenient alternative when scheduled for an early morning surgery time. Although reservations are not required, they are accepted and may be made by contacting the Centennial Lodge reception desk at (205) 558-3800.
