What is an ultrasound?
Ultrasounds works by sending high-frequency sound waves into the breast. The pattern of echoes from these sound waves is converted into an image, called sonogram. No radiation is involved. The process is not painful.

The ultrasound is a routine screening tool that is used in conjunction with mammography. An ultrasound is used to evaluate areas of change seen in mammograms or lumps felt by your doctor. It is not used in place of mammography.

How do I prepare for an ultrasound?
Wear a blouse, t-shirt or sweater with a skirt or pants. Do not wear a dress or jumpsuit. You will be given a gown and asked to undress from the waist up. You can eat/drink before the exam.

How is the procedure performed?
During the procedure you will lie on your back on an examination table. An ultrasound of the breast will be performed to locate the area of change. Please feel free to ask any question before and during the examination.
