With St. Vincent's Breastfeeding Education, new and experienced mothers can learn the advantages and techniques of breastfeeding. Breastfeeding Education Breastfeeding can be one of the most rewarding experiences of a new mother's life. The closeness that comes from skin-to-skin contact with the baby reinforces that emotional bonding that is so important in the first few months of a newborn's life. While breastfeeding is a healthy way to feed a baby, new mothers often need some guidance. Lactation consultants are specially trained to address questions and concerns. Breastfeeding is beneficial for both mothers and babies and recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics for children up to one year of age. St. Vincent's Lactation Services are located near the lobby on the first floor of the Women's and Children's Center. The Women's and Children's Center at St. Vincent's Hospital is dedicated to the promotion, support and protection of breastfeeding. The "how-to's" of breastfeeding, common myths and prevention of problems are a few of the topics covered in the class "Breastfeeding..Skills for Success." Our Staff St. Vincent's International Board Certified Lactation Consultants are professionals who provide support to breastfeeding moms and their families. We always encourage husbands, grandparents, and other support persons to participate with mothers in all classes.
