The outpatient Infusion Center is conveniently located within the Cancer Treatment Center at St. Vincent’s East. As an outpatient area, we provide outpatient infusions including chemotherapy infusions, blood transfusions, fluid hydration, bone marrow procedures, follow up vaccinations, and other infusion based therapies. The Outpatient Infusion Suite is staffed with Registered Nurses that also maintain chemotherapy certifications. Our goals are to provide infusion services and treatments to an outpatient population in an efficient and effective manner, thus reducing or eliminating the need for inpatient admissions.
Here is what to expect on your first visit to our Cancer Center: On your first visit to our Infusion Suite you will fill out some paperwork which will help us to better understand you health and social history. The nurse will weigh you and do a complete assessment. Your IV will be started, your drugs or blood products will be obtained from the pharmacy or blood bank and you will rest comfortably in one of our recliners while your therapy is administered. Lounge chairs, television, books and refreshments provide comfort for infusion patients while receiving treatment. You will be discharged from the Infusion Suite when your therapy is completed.
Other services available to our patients:
A dietician is available to help with nutrition problems. The dietician will see every patient that has been diagnosed with head and neck, esophageal, and colorectal cancer. The dietician will also see patients that are experiencing weight loss while having radiation therapy.
A Case Manager is also available to help with home health care and other social services concerns.
A Financial Advisor is available to help if needed (Notify the nurse if you feel you may need to see the financial advisor).
Upon completion of your radiation therapy, you will have follow-up appointments to monitor your progress and for any late side effects of radiation therapy. We will continue to monitor your progress for up to 5-10 years after radiation is completed.
